After seeing a few in my lfs I've begun doing some research on Rams, and I must confess I've developed a teeny crush  They have lovely colouring, and I really like what I've read about their temperaments. Plus, anything that requires some deliberate effort to breed is going to be a relief after sweating over my Convicts!

While I wouldn't be making a purchase any time before Christmas, I want to get a good jump on my research, and since I happen to have an empty 20g long (originally reserved for a betta spawn that now may not take place, if my male isn't feeling up to it in the New Year ) I was just wondering if that would be an okay starting point for a pair of rams.

Beautiful. I can't think how I missed that in my search, esprecially since I see now that it's pinned right there at the top. Aie, I need my eyes checked  Thank you so much for the link

I have a question, now that you probably know you can keep the rams in the 20, when you say 'long' do you mean just the standard or designed to be longer and shorter that the regular? I'm just curious because to know if there are standards, talls and longs.

The tank is a 2nd hand one, so I don't know if it was sold as a 'longer' tank or not; I just know it's considerably longer than it is tall, unlike some 20g tanks I have come across.

A 20 gallon 'long' is 30" long, while the 20 gallon regular is 24" long. The long one is more desirable for cichlid tanks.

Ahh, tyvm; I have a 'long' one then :p

No word on the rams themselves until the New Year, since that's when I'll find out if my male betta is ready to be a father or not, but at least now I know they'd be happy in what I have for them. ;) Thanks so much!
