Alright........ trying as hard as possible not to panic right now. My oldest Silver Dollar has about 4 consecutive white dots on the bottom of his top fin. That particular SD gets into lots of "pecking order" fights, so is this just it healing? I didn't think so, because they are horizontal and going away from the fin tears, but they do start at the tear. They are about twice the size of Ich dots, and they do looks fluffy. This doesn't sound good... I tried to take a picture, but SD's are so paranoid that everytime the camera got close it zipped away. I think I'll be able to isolate the SD in several days, it will take time for me to get a filter and heater for an empty 55g. This is my oldest tropical fish, it's only about a year and a half old, please help me out! I'll try to stay on as much as possible today to update... I'm not too sure if I have to work.

Just want to make sure that the spots don't look like a clump of berries or a cauliflower, did you say they have fluff on the whitespots, any redness to the spots.

They do NOT look like a clump of berries, but the dots themselves, not the surrounding area, are fluffy and white. Is this what I think it is..... (Columnaris??? Surely it isn't in spots like that)

I'm beginning to believe it's got finrot. It's top fin (dorsal, is it?) is more tattered than it was yesterday. Also, I'm not sure if this is relevant, but I had a dead cory cat in the bottom of the tank, (AGAIN.) this time, the cory WAS NOT pale, or unhealthy in any manner or fashion before death. Judging from a quick once-over of the body, I figure my BGK had a field day late this morning..... the second cory cat he's gotten. Taking the last one back to my LFS today to prevent it from being..... you know, dead. What, in your opinion, is the best medicinal approach for finrot? I only have ich meds, malafix and pimafix on hand right now. Hopefully if you post in the next couple of minutes, I'll be able to hit the LFS and get what you say. If not, I'm sure I can get it tomorrow.

UPDATE: Dots on the dollar have gotten much, much smaller, looking like pinpricks now. But, I believe the behaviour of the dollar itself has deteriorated. It will no longer eat flake food, but it will still happily eat bloodworm and brineshrimp. Also, it is also not near as "jumpy" as it once was. I used to move my hand in front of the tank, and they all darted around. Now... actually, none of them do..... But it is only the Largest of the dollars that has the spots. About the hand thing, do you think they just got used to me?

For the finrot maracyn one and two.
The dots sure it's not whitespot which looks like grains of salt on the fish.

Darting
Water quality problems, skin parasites, drug side effects, stray voltage in the tank
