Could I put my cons in a 40 gallon with my red-eared sliders (2) (about the size of, oh, I dunno, maybe 4"x3", maybe smaller). I would put plants in, and if my turtles ate them (I dont think they would, they are supposed to be *herbivores* but they dont eat any lettuce or anything I crush up for them. If I can't do this, I would have to sell them, as they may kill my angels if they spawn (they would kill them). Thanks!
Sean

The major drawback I see to that plan would be the temperature of the water. My MIL keeps RES and I don't think she has a heater on the tank. Angels like water on the warmer side so I don't know if the RES would thrive in the warmer water....

Actually, its the cons I want to put in with the RES, and yes, RES do thrive in warmer water. They can be found from Texas to Brazil in my understanding.

You're right, I don't know why I was thinking angels :S :p

There may be other issues that I don't know about but that was just my first thought.

Ive kept other fish in with them, and they didnt hurt them, so Im thinking it would be ok, I just want others opinions.

I read that RES slowly and graually begin to eat plant mtter more and more as they age, when young they like a meaty diet, and at three or so inches yours are still small. They would have no prob killing and eating the cons -_-

Oops, double post

maybe it was me but I have always thought that it was a no no to keep reptiles with tropical fish due to bacteria in their fecal matter that can be fatal to fish.

That would be a problem, even though Ive never heard of that, Ill have to maybe do some research, but Ive also heard that the slime that coldwater fish have the tropical fish are allergic to, but then how would people keep bettas with goldfish, or have outdoor ponds with goldfish and other tropicals (in the tropics)?
Sean

Also, are turtles reptiles or amphibians? Because if theyre amphibians, wouldn't it be ok, because people keep ADF with tropicals.
Sean

Well, has anyone else ever heard that? Like I said, Ive kept fish with them before, and they were fine, so, Im kind of undecided now. I think I will, unless someone gives a very good reason not to. The fecal matter reason would be good, exept that Ive kept fish with my RES before with no problem, so, Im not sure.

I've never heard that before... I would say that if you've kept other fish with them before that it would be worth a shot. RES are so cute!

Ya, I agree, Red Eared Sliders are cute. I have mine in an enclosed pond, ATM. When I first put them in, the would go around the whole perimeter of the fence, sticking their heads through every hole, trying to get out, lol, it was so cute.

I saw in someones signature that they had a painted turtle and a juvenille chevron? snakehead in a 10 gallon. 10 gallons is way too small for a painted turtle, but if theyve got it in their tank with a snakehead, the fecal matter bacteria mustnt be harmful to tropicals. Also, like I said, Ive kept fish in with them before.
