sorry but that is kind of a broad statement.

which lake? malawi is the most popular

what type of temperament? low aggression or high

do you want easy to breed fish or something more challenging? are you going to keep theim in the community or isolate them when breeding?

ok whats the diff between the lakes?

i wanna keep them in the comm if they breed.

i just got back from one of the LFS and they have a ton of them. i cant deside and need help...

i'm in the same boat but I only have a 30 gal tank. I'd like three fish, but I doubt if my tank is big enough for three. Any suggestions on what to get?

The most common is the lake malwi mbuna at least in most lfs, These are probally the hardiest and are also very easy to breed as long as theya are happy in their enviroment. I'd suggest these
Their Haps from lake malawi these fish live mostly in open water areas feeding on small organisms in the water, while the mbuna live in the rocks where the stake out their territories and eat awfuchs, which is a mixture of microorganisms and algae on the rocks in their territories.
Tangykians tend to be a little less hardy than malawis, The also have rock dwelling fish, similar to the mbuna. Their are also open water fish, and shelldwellers.
Lake victoria I really have no idea about it and is the lest popular lake

Heres a good resource to check some species Goodluck

Big festa that's also a good spot to look in, but with a 30 gallon your more limitede to shelldwellers, from lake tangykian and mbuna from lake malawi.
For mbuna any one of the labidochromis species would work, as well as Pseudotropheus saulosi, and Pseudotropheus acei, and possib ly others ask if you find something you like
