I have a tank with a good amount of fish in it. I have 2 female swordtails as wellas a male and 3 female guppies as well as a male. My problem is not with getting the swordtails to breed, however the guppies just wont breed. It seems that my male guppy is confused as to weather or not he is a guppy or a swordtail. He spends hours chasing around only one of the swortails trying to mate with her and only her. What can I do to get my guppy to leave the swordtail alone and start breeding with his own kind?

What size is your tank? What is the current temperature of your tank? Higher temperatures often encourage breeding however you don't want to overheat the tank so do'nt go higher then 81F degrees. If after a temperature raise for a week you don't see him doing anything differently maybe try adding another female. Best of Luck!

And :hi: :hi: to the forum!! :fish: :fish: :fish: :fish:

I have a 20 gallon tank that is set at 79 degrees. I have at one time had up to 4 females in the tank and still no response from him, I even tried getting a full sized guppy but she just swims around as lonely as can be.

I wouldn't worry, maybe your female guppys are pregnant and he's just not interested in them at the moment. Male guppys will try to spawn with just about anything though; he's not confused, just horny.
