I had to take down all my tanks when I went off to college, since I couldn't take them with me, or be home to maintain them. But once I either get out of college, or get an apartment during college, I'd like to set them back up. This is what I thinking:
(some are a little on the heavier stocked side, but I've been keeping fish for close to 6yrs, and feel that I could provide all the necessary filtration and water changes :)

10gal:
1 honey gourami
7 male guppies(no babies for me's)
a handful of ghost shrimp

20gal:
5 cories, I want pandas if I can find them, but if not I've always liked peppered cories too.
7 black phantom tetras or black neons.
5 cherry barbs
A trio of platies
and something for the top, I'm thinking either a dwarf gourami, or a female betta

55gal
1 red tailed black shark
12 tiger barbs
9 zebra danios
A trio of either mollys or swordtails
and one of the larger gouramis, either blue or gold.

10 and 20 sound good, I'd go with a gourami over a female betta, but that's more personal preference. The 55 actually sounds a bit light, some good room for growth, but my main concern is the gourami. Tiger barbs are notoriously nippy, and gouramis are slow moving and have long feelers that are vulnerable to nipping.

Oo, yea your right I didn't think about that.
Is there a top-level fish you might suggest? or could I just add a school of hardy tetras?

Any of the bigger tetras would be fine - many of them will give the tiger barbs a good run. For top swimmers, danios would probably be fine, particularly the bigger ones, or rasboras. Both are quick enough that tiger barbs aren't going to be a bother for them. Any of the bigger bodied tetras would be fine, as well - some of them can make the tiger barbs seem tame.

I'd keep away from mollies though (unless you choose small sphenops) because they like salt and the other fish in that setup don't.

Female bettas will not stay at the top. The other anabantids will, but a female betta will dart all over the tank. If you want a focal point at the top of the tank I'd use a gourami. They're a lot harder to look after but if you have a lot of fishkeeping experience you should be fine with it. Add it last.
