Full of great intentions to buy nice quality bettas from modaz on here (and i WILL... but i have a tank to customise ..)
I went into LFS with my betta wanting friend... and got suckered. Totally and utterly.
*I* was going to look, and i *was* going to dissuade her from buying any of the tatty manky VT's in there.
Really... truly i was. And then.... one of them turned his grouchy pouty little face at me.. and turned a pitiful circle in his tiny tiny little cube..
So that was it, hooked. Gone. like a complete mug - off i trundle to the dry goods area, pick up two of the cheapest plastic tanks I can afford (its taht or the saucepans at home and im in enough trouble as it IS) that appear to offer SOME swimming space.. and then go into battle with FishBoy who works there.. (he has a real name, ill not use it I know other TFF-ers shop there.)
By pure skill at bold and unashamed haggling (no... dont believe me... well ok he fancies the wossits off my friend ROFL) we get them discounted... and come away with not 1 (or 0 as I had planned)... but 4.. 4 sad, tatty, torn, battered bettas.. who were destined to become snakehead dinners (i hope someone saves the ones we couldnt afford.. )
So... bad bad bad me.. wrong thing to do..... and no the tanks i have for them are not what id consider big enough either but that was all i could do with £20 that day...
Anyway the good news is all four are eating well, my two are building the shiniest biggest besterest bubblenests in the world, probably out of some form of gratitude (ok boys, yes im impressed
), playing with their fake plants and showing me how pretty they will be when they grow their fins back properly... my friends seemed fine last night when i looked in on them - also building nests and playing with fake plants.
Am off to build them some air driven filters now, having taken two days to find the air pump (i hope it will drive two filters!)..
Any ideas how long they will be ok in the tanks they have... mine are both in the hagen pals pen jobbies, medium size (thnk its only just over 4l), friends got one in the hagen job and one in a slightly bigger ten litre thingy (that is filtered though).
Its a definate upgrade from what they had... but im not happy with it long term!
