We have blood worm and also betta pro and were wondering how much should be given when conditioning pairs for spawning. Also, once the blood worm are defrosted, how long will it last. At the moment we are throwing away what's left and I wasn't sure if it was kept in the fridge if we could feed from it the next day too.

It would be interesting to hear what others do.

Thanks

Netty

Lol i feed my pairs 4 small meals a day...
and refrigerate for 2 days till i throw it away

I presume you use the frozen blister packs of BW Netty ?

I just get a frozen cube and "waft" it around in the warm tank water. As it defrosts, the BW comes off the cube and you can see how much you're feeding. Any left goes back in the "blister" and back in the freezer.

Been doing it like this with my reef tanks for the past 20 years with no problems at all. !!!

I just cut off the amount i need then put the rest back in the freezer... Waste not want not

Thanks guys some great ideas there.

I thought hubby was being a bit wasteful

How many bloodworm should they have a day while conditioning and does anyone use Betta Pro?

I feed all my betta's atisons pro... None of them have turned their noses up at it yet
I have tried daphinia and krill although they are not so keen on these and just watch it sink to the bottom!!! Fussy lot!
Bloodworm is a favourite with them and they like pea too so i pretty much stick with what they like..
They have about 3 bloodworm each when i feed it and the bigger ones 4...

I actually refreeze my bloodworms when I'm done feeding. I put hot water in a cup with them to thaw them, so it takes a little longer to thaw them the second time since they're now frozen in a chunk of ice, but if you pour off some of the extra water before refreezing it's not too bad.

If you put them in the fridge, they will last about two days before they start looking funky... I figure if it looks bad, it's probably not good to feed to something!

When conditioning, I feed about 6 worms at least three times a day. Really I just keep an eye on how fat the fish are getting... during conditioning I want them to have nicely rounded stomachs, especially the female, but I don't want them ready to explode. So I feed them as much as they will readily eat without looking like blimps.

My bettas all love Atison's Betta Pro. I mostly feed frozen, but they get a few pellets once a day... balanced diet and all.

Thanks guys

I got some Betta Pro at the weekend and it's going down a treat. We also feed the frozen BW in the blister packs, so this info is really helpful as I was unsure how many more to give for conditioning them and didn't realise you could refreeze them either.

:thanks:
