I hear about this term, in order to get the parents in the best "condition". I know Convicts are easy to breed, but i have a pair now that are my "pride and joy" as they are producing a strain i have been trying to get for ages. So i have moved them into their own tank. Am wondering how to really give them the best diet i can; at my disposal is.......

Frozen Foods - Bloodworm (red and white), Artemia (Brineshrimp), Daphnia, Cyclops (more for fry really), Mixed Veg (Malawi Mix)

I also sometimes feed them small boiled peas, mussels (cut up very fine) and prawns

Also i have Tetra Min and Spirulina Flakes. I generally feed once a day (usually 4x per week frozen and 3x per week flakes) - with the odd session of mussels and prawn thrown in

What i am wondering is from the above what would peeps advise to condition the fish the best? I also want to do 2x small feeds per day instead of the current 1xbig feed.

My main questions

1. How often to feed mussels and prawns
2. How often to feed boiled peas
3. How often to feed bloodworm (i hear it can constipate???)
4. How often should i feed flakes

Soome may see this as "splitting hairs" a bit but i am convinced there is more to this (diet) that i currently know. Also some would say "why change things", well.... i am just researching if there is a way of improving their diet.

I will also happily purchase additional foods i might need not mentioned above

DONT WANT TO USE LIVE FOODS

really looking for some advanced knowledge or experience here

Also with regards to water changing AND removing the fry, my normal practice is 30% water changes every 7-10 days, and with other breeding convicts i tend to remove the fry at 2-3 days after free swimming if in my mixed cichlid tanks or about 3-4 weeks if the parents are alone.

If i am really going to go for it and try to maximise amounts of fry and fry development with this pair, i was thinking to remove the fry after 2-weeks ? In my experience if you move the fry to early they suffer, but i also want to remove them fairly soon so i can speed up their development (put them in a small tank with daily water changes and 7-8 feeds per day)

Any Views???

Shall i stick to my regular 30% every 7-10 for the parents?

PS - breeding Convicts is nothing new to me, have probably had over 50+ broods from many different combinations of parents, BUT really wanna settle down now and focus on this pair and doing it as EFFICIENTLY and EFFECTIVELY as possible
