I have a fluval 1200 Duo deep which has dimensions of 120cm long x 40cm deep x 45cm high. It comes without a condensation tray and I was wondering if I really need one or not. And if I do anyone know where i could get one to fit this tank. I've looked around just to see what's around and they all seem to be to short in the depth.

Thanx
Dani

If they aren't supplied with a kit aquarium you probably don't need them. Do the light tubes have seals in the ends?

It depends on the tank and your preferences really. I find a condensation tray helps as the water collects on that instead of under the hood of the tank, this makes it easier for me when performing routine maintenance and cleaning as I can remove the tank lid without dripping water everywhere. However.....my old tank never needed a condensation tray at all as the water didn't collect on the hood as much? I think it all depends on what you prefer and what you find easier.
If you decide you do need one I found mine on e-bay, you could try there, otherwise I am sure you could just buy the plastic from somewhere and cut one to size? You never know one of these online shops might even cut you one to size if you ask? :)

Thanx for your responses so far.

Diademhill, being new to fish and the likes I dont know if they are sealed or not. What should I be looking at?

Cory_Cat, easy maintenance is a big must really as I have a 18 month old little girl so I'm thinking I'm going to have to look for one. My only probably as I said before is that alot of theo nes I've seen on online shops and only 12" wide where as I need just under 16" wide. I'll take a look on ebay later as that's where I seem to have got a lot of my stuff, including my tank.

Thanx again
Dani

According to the manufacturer they are not supplied so you don't need one.

If you look at the end caps where the lighting tubes fit there should be a washer or similar to make the fitting splashproof?

I have that tank too, its sealed yes and you don't need a condensation try, condensations trays are a good thing for the winter but unless you can play around with one it wont fit that tank because the lid sits down on the sides.

Thanx guys.

Boxa you've put my mind at rest now. But as you've got the same tank I have a quetion thats not related to this but never mind. The holes in the lid which the wires are supposed to go out I've I assume (really showing how new I am to this now :) ), I'm worried fish might jump out of them. Have you blocked them up and if so how.

Cheer again
Dani

How far have you filled the tank up? only fill it up to that red sticker on the side, with the holes though the fish would have to really and I mean really want to get out of your tank to get through there and even then they would have to be some kind of super fish to jump at that angle form the water through that little side gap  However if your planning anything like Frogs then yes you will need to fill them and if you are still worried that the fish will somehow get through there then to put your mind at rest just cut some mesh and tape it over the holes but there actually doing more help than harm by bringing in air which helps the air just below the cover circulate, that way you don't end up with a smelly aquarium

Did you get the fluval 1200 stand too? I didn't trust it so opted for a big old desk in the end.

Well I haven't actully set up my tank yet. The tank was second hand but hadn't been used. The guy i bought it off was obvioulsy trying to save money and bought the stand for the 1000 model which is too short but I'm getting a peice of wood the right size and nailing it on top of the stand. I trust it enough. I had my partners mate come round once and said he knew someone with a tank bout the same size but with a really flimsy stand and it managed to hold it fine so I'm going to trust this stand and hope for the best.
As for the holes, I'm not planning on putting frogs inthis tank so i guess all my worries were not needed. If I do anything it will be mesh so the air can still get through.

Thanx alot boxa

Which stand was it though, I got this one

like I say though it didn't seem safe, I put the tank on it and there was movement already so I didn't trust it, had it happen to me before with a stand breaking at 3 in the morning before. The other style of stand looked a bit stronger though, either way I would put some wood struts at the back just to be sure and make sure its not standing directly on to carpet. Its a nice tank once its setup, you wont need any lights on in the room either with the tank lights blinding the room out

I think it is that stand. It is standing on carpet but is very sturdy, no wobbling. I've bought some moonlight led's for the night. My dad's pretty good at woodwork and stuff and it's him that's getting the new peice of wood to go on top so I'll check with him if he thinks it's all ok and going to support it alright. What a nightmare the stand breaking must have been. Touch wood nothing like that will happen to me.

Yeah your probably be ok, just like I say had a few things go wrong with mine in the past which has since made me that more weary and paranoid that I will come back from work and see Guppy's laying on the floor and the room being in an inch of water, but then I think too much about things like that now

Well having a little girl means I'm at home all day so I shouldn't be too far if anything was to happen. Don't reckon I'll have the tank up and running till xmas and that's if I'm lucky.
