I currently have two tanks - Elite 35l and Jewel Rekord 80l. I have noticed that both get quite a lot of condensation on the lighting units (none come with condensation trays) I have already replaced the elite bulb once as it stopped working, probably due to the water damage, i have only had the tank for about 3 months and the light is starting to flicker again.

Has anyone else every experienced these problems? I thought about trying to get a condensation try but no lfs around me seem to have them and i wouldn't be sure where to attach it anyway as both tanks have flaps in the hood for feeding.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

My lights start to flicker when they need to be changed. Maybe you can get a hardware store to cut some glass for you to put under the lights.

Thanks. I could try that, i am just not sure how to attach the glass to the hood. I am hoping my light won't need changed that much as i have only had it 3 months and this is the 2nd bulb change i have had to do.

Your Juwel lights should be ok, as they are fully sealed (there are rubber seals on the locking caps) - assuming it is the same as my Rio lighting. The seals should be replaced when the tube is changed, according to the instructions. I don't use a condensation tray on my tank.

Ok thanks that is good to know. I have decided to change my hood on my small elite tank as the light blow out last night again (2nd time in 2 months) so i am not sure if it is the water getting into the bulb or a fault with the actual hood connection, but i think it would be cheaper in the long run and easier to just buy a new hood.
