Condensate Water Ok?

Felt sorry for the betta in the tiny cup of water and bought one. He's going to upgrade to a one gallone bowl. Rather than leave him in the cup for 48 hours while chlorine evaporates out of tap water, I thought I could use condensate water from the A/C unit. This is just water condensed out the atmosphere, should be safe, right Appreciate a reply from anyone who knows more. thanks!

why do you need to wait 48 hours? a dechlorinateor would make it safe pretty much instantly

Condensate from aircon will NOT be just water.... there will be all sort of contaminants in there from tobacco smoke to vehicles emmissions.
Buy some dechlor... you'll be needing it anyway !

Thanks for both replies. I certainly will pick up some water treatment at first opportunity.
FYI - went ahead and used the condensate water, fish acts fine after 12 hours. I will treat some tap water and replace 25% of the bowl per week. We live in a rural area in the Midwestern U.S., so our air is fairly clean and the condensate water should be, too.

Those condensers are made of copper and aluminum. This is a bad thing to have in water that a fish lives in. They are also a great place for bacteria, mold, and fungus to grow, this may affect your fish.

Thank you for bringing that up. The water comes out clear and clean looking but there still might be bacteria.

Got some water conditioner and changed out about 50% of the water with treated tap water. Fish acts fine through all of this.

The copper pipes build up a coating of lime scale, this effectively seals them. The O2 content of tap water is much lower than that of the air flowing over the condenser, oxidation requires oxygen.

You will not see copper in the water, or aluminum, or most any dissolved toxin.

Treated tap water is your best bet.
