hi i have a tank that has 8 neon tetras and 2 male guppys in, they will be transferred to a 25 litre (uk) tank once it has cycled. What i want to ask though is i love tetras they are just  but i only have neons, can you get (in the uk) other species, like black neons and cardinals etc etc or do they not work well in a tropical tank?? i have not seen any in my lfs so i guessed you cant, any ideas?? ty :)

*sorry if i am totally wrong, i am learning  *

Tetras are a great schooling fish and I have seen many other species available. Sounds like you need to find a better lfs.

In the lfs around me (Southampton), I have recently seen: black neons (in all 4 shops I visited), black phantoms, serpas, paraguay tetras, black widows, bleeding hearts, red phantoms, golden neons, golden tetras, cardinals, lemon tetras, congo tetras, pristellas, penguins, cochu's blue tetra, blind cave tetras and glowlights. And I'm not even near any of the big shops. So there doesn't seem to be any shortage of tetras.

There are lots of teras available but you don't have room for any.
The new tank will be overstocked with just your neons.
How big is your current tank? If it is ok & filtered maybe the guppies could stay behind?

You can get lots of different tetras in a decent LFS as dwarfgourami says. Search round for a really good lfs and then stick with it.

I wouldn't recommend chucking your neons into a newly cycled tank though. They really need a more mature tank that has been up and running for a number of months.

What are the options with leaving them in your current tank longer?
