I'd started my tank by adding 6 harlequins and they a couple of days later 5 guppies (tank was cycled). I lost 2 of the guppies quite quick and when the third started to act the same I've treated the tank for parasites, this has taken the last 10 days, with the final dose this evening. Couple of questions, I guess I'll need to do a 25% water change now the course is complete, but how long after this last treatment should I wait before I do it. How long should I wait before I start adding more fish?

Also the guppy which started to act like the ones that died, although it's still alive, it's very up and down, sometimes it swims with the other 2 ok, other times it spends time sitting on the gravel and ever now and then it flicks quickly about, I#m assuming that the parasite it had has damaged it in some way or I've not yet cured it? Comment?

Cheers,

Keith

Hmmm first r u sure u have parasite problem in ur tank? I personally do water change asap after the treatment is over. The long u have those medicine in ur water the more harmful it going to be to ur bacteria in ur filter.

Have you changed the filters also? You need to do that as well as a water change. Since the medicine has been in there so long what are your test results on the water? This is important and al the medicine may damage the water cycling process for a bit. i had that problem over a month ago and it took me a month to get it straight again. Only after I changed about half the water let the tank do ao mini cycle did it straighten out. Now everything is fine. Good Lcuk. Let us jknow how your fishies are doing? I lost almost all of mine with exception to the balloon guppies I had theymade it through unscathed.

A month before you add new fish, if it's sitting on the bottom of the tank bad news, and if it flicking its sounds like a parasite, can you post water stats in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph, any red inflamed gills, or heavy breathing, or any salt like grains of salt on the fish.

OK just tested my water (well that in thetank :) ) ammonia is 0, nitrite is <0.3 ppm lowest test kit reads and the nitrates are between 10 - 20 ppm, ph is 7.5 - 8. Fish looks ok, no noticable spots, marks on its body, fins look ok. Looked best I can at the gills and they look no different to the other two guppies, only look redish (more pinky really) when he opens them and swims away which I'm guessing is normal. He does breath more often that the other two, but not as much as he did a week or so ago. He's eating properly and most of the time acts like the other two?

From the medicine point of view, sure I read somewhere that it normally degrades within 24 hours, I'll give it another day then do a water change, I guess I should put the carbon bit of my filter in as well to "clean up" the water.

Cheers,

Keith
