Hi! Merry Christmas to all!

Anyway, I was wondering if you could use a substrate for plants that needs covering but instead of using sand or gravel to cover it, could you use something like Colombo complete substrate to cover it instead?

I don't plan on doing it, I was just curious to whether you could or not.

Also, what do you guys think of the tropica brand? Is it any good? They look like a good company as they clearly take care in the presentation of their site, a lot of info and videos on their products and plants. I was thinking of using their fertiliser because you only have to dose weekly which sounds easier.

Thanks!

Honestly daily dosing is better as its consistent but weekly dosing has a 7 day drop off. Tropica ave a good range of everything they do so all of their goods I'd recommend but there are cheaper options that do the same job.

As for the substrate, depends why it needs capping as if its messy and may float then a good covering is needed on every mm like sand but if its not too messy and stays put then anything is fine.

Thanks Steveo! I did read (or you probably told me) that a consistent regular dose is much better.

I was thinking about upgrading the Co2 one day to one of the more expensive ones with constant bubbles if it was ever needed.

Ah right I see, thanks for clearing that up, makes sense. :)
