Hi All

Completely new to the hobby, have bought a 27 litre tank, cycled and have 3 Glowlight Tetras. My two boys and I want to learn so we can move up to a bigger tank in the future,

I have read many conflicting articles on what I should have in my tank, so thought I would ask here for the best advice,

We would like a lively tank with a few species, but with it being so small know we will be limited. Suggestions on the best mix would be really appreciated. I intend on adding a couple more of the current tetras, so they have a decent group and my boys would like a snail and some shrimp. Suggestions on which species of these would also be much appreciated, alongside advice for additional fish.

Many Thanks in advance,
John

Hello and
welcomeani.gif

Whilst 27 litre / 7 US gal tank is not the biggest tank in the world its not the smallest either.

I am glad you have joined this forum and asking for advice about this tank.

To be honest i think its actually a little small for tetras despite their size, they do need some swimming space and can be fairly active little fish.

But if you are looking for shrimp and snail choices for this tank, Red Cherry Shrimps and a couple of Nerite Snails might be nice and easy to keep in this tank.

I have RCS myself and i loke these characters, do be warned however, they can be prolific breeders, I started with about 8 and added 6 more about a month later when i first started, now have at least 40+ in my tank

Nerite snails are good for cleaning glass and plants of a little algae plus these are quite interesting little guys, they also won't breed in freshwater tanks (their eggs need to hatch in brackish water)

Here is a link for more info in Red Cherry Shrimps, it is a fairly useful site I use for extra information on shrimps and snails,

to TFF, John! Hope you enjoy it here.

May I ask how you went about cycling the tank?

I agree with Ch4rlie, although I know that is not what you want to hear.
HERE is some more info about your glowlight tetras. It recommends a tank size of 70l.

I'd rehome them and get something like Mosquito Rasbora, which you can read about HERE.

Would love to see a pic of your current tank! If you feel like sharing you can go to 'More Reply Options' and upload file at the bottom.
If this doesn't work you can go to a photo sharing website such as photobucket and link the image(s) here.
