Hi just a quick question i am planning to buy these fish to seperate between a 3ft and a 4ft tank, As i have been told there all compatible, which is the best way to seperate them thanks,

20 guppies male and female
6 cory cats male and female
3 angels unsexed
2 white tip bristlenose plecs
2 geophagus blue and gold ramirez cichlids male and female
1 red tail shark.

The cory's need to stay together. The shark - mmm not such a good idea - can be aggressive. Keep the angels away from your guppies - they'll nip and poss eat them. Unless you want to breed lots of guppies then you need to split the males from the females. If you're going to mix them then make sure you have more females than males or the males will "worry" the females. No idea about those cichlids though - sorry.

eta - do you mean these rams?

In which case - should be fine but not sure they'll like to be with the shark

Keep the cories together.
I would drop the shark.

The angels should be fine together unless two pair off and start to bully the remaining fish, they might also go for the guppies as they are nippy.

Depending on the number of gallons of the tank i would go for:
Tank 1.
20 guppies male and female
6 cory cats male and female

Tank 2
3 angels unsexed
2 white tip bristlenose plecs

Not sure on the cichlids as ive never kept them, but as long as they arnt agressive id be tempted to put them with the guppies.
Just my suggestion though!

as above really.

the rams stay small and are pretty peaceful, so could go in either tank

I would put the guppies, corydoras and bristlenose plecos in one tank, and everything else in the other. :D

Surely the guppys need a predator of sorts to keep their numbers in check.

something to eat maybe 75% of the fry. Otherwise there will be issues with inbreeding and overstocking. Before you know it there will be 500 fish per square inch (maybe thats a bit over-the-top)

seems a bit mean!

I know and it is a sad thing - but I have seen so many tanks overstocked, and you cant really take excess stock to local shops for store credit if there is the chance that they have been breeding daughter with father or son with mother. (lets not go down the ethical trail here tho) And it wouldnt be fair on the fish to chase them round with a net and do a humane cull to reduce numbers.

Returning inbread fish to shops would start reducing the quality of shop stock. It would take fairly few people taking these inbread fish into shops and a whole areas stocks would become genetically non-viable. Flaws and diseases would soon start to raise their heads.

Maybe they could be advertised as feeder fish, but they still go down the same route. Let a fishy yum them up. It would also have the added advantage of encouraging natural behaviour in the predator and reducing the breeding potential of defected fish (hate using that term) survival of the fittest and all that.

Other guppies will eat guppy fry, numbers tend to be kept in check that way if the tank dosent have that many hiding places. Angels will eat the fry but also bully the adults so that wouldnt be a good option.

What are the full dimensions of both tanks ??

I would go with 16 Male Guppys and 4 Females but have them divided between the tanks shown below,
This way you can add and remove Males when you want them to breed, keeping numbers down.

3ft
1 BN
2 Rams
15 Male Guppys

4ft
1 BN
2 Angels
1 Male Guppy 4 Females
6 Corys
1 RTB
