i like to get research on a fish before i buy them but this latest one has got me stumped. i have a book i often read about different fish and there needs etc... so this question, can a flying fox and a red tail black shark go in the same t ank. the book says two flying foxes cant be kept in a tank less than 60cm wide, and 2 sharks cant be kept in the same tank, but what about each other?

cheers

Generally, all those cyprinids are intolerant of anything that looks too much like them. A red tailed shark won't mix with a rainbow shark. While I'm not entirely sure on the flying fox in that mix, I don't think I'd try mixing them, as I wouldn't trust the shark to behave - depending on your other plans, the flying fox might be the better pick of the two.

With the flying fox, read up on how to identify them. They get mixed up with true and false siamese algae eaters, and sometimes stoneslapping minnows. If you get yourself a true SAE, count yourself lucky - I've been looking for one for months.

Also, with all of them, they'll likely be fine for some time after you get them. The problems will start as tthey approach maturity, when they go through a personality change.

thanks for the reply. from what ive gathered from my research there are two types of FF's a siamese and the other one, itd the non siamese one that i was contemplating buying
