Hi, a friend of mine is giving away 10 purple emporers and two dwarf cichlids as he is getting too old to keep them now.At the moment he has them in seperate tanks and has offered the fish to me. My tank has been cycled for about 6 weeksit holds 70L my ph is 7.8 gh 8 kh 5 are these fish compatable and would they be good beginner fish. His nephew is taking his tanks but doesnt want the fish as he has too many as it is.

What are your ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels?

the tetras should be fine, would be peaceful in a group that size
the cichlids it would depennd on there species

all the above levels are at 0 tap water is nitrate free as well cichlids are apistogramma macmasteri i think.

you should have a ntirAte reading, what test kit are you using?

as far as i am aware apisto's will be fine

sorry nitrate is at 10 i had done a full water change this morning because i was going to take my friends fish of his hands but i decide to get a bit of advice first.

Yes the tetras and the apistos will be fine in that tank. Give the apistos some good planted cover/caves and keep up good water quality as you should be good :)

Well i decided to give my neighbours fish a wide birth as few of them seem to have whitespot on them so i popped down to my LFS to see what they had in and the only thing that caught my eye were corydora juliis they had.i was thinking of getting ten maybe.Any advice on keeping these would be greatful like what they eat what water parameters they like other compatable fish and so on

Hi jack the lad i also decided to pass on taking my friends emperors and cichlids the emperors have stringy stuff coming out of them.
My LFS has corydoras juliis in stock as well which are great to watch and like you i would be interested to know if anyone has any and could give me some advice on whats needed to keep them

All corys are great fish, and pretty much the same all around as far as care (some are more sensitive than others). Get a good group, 5-6 at least. They'll eat just about anything, but you'll want to provide them with a sinking food, since they won't get much flake down there. Any catfish pellet will work. Mine also like Hikari micropellets, and will steal algae tablets from my bristlenose.

Hi, corleone thanks for your quick response have the juliis got specific water parameters as my ph is rather high the ph at my LFS is 7.0 and my tank is 7.8 what would i have to do to aclimatize them to my tank
