I have a female dwarf gourami in my tank along with tetras. I did have a male dwarf gourami but he died a few weeks ago. No idea what happened to him? Had him for about 18 months, I change my water regularly and all the levels seem fine. All the other fish seem happy enough. So rather than replacing him I was thinking about gettng guppies? I know I can’t keep them with males but can I have them with females??

Hi there :)

We really need some more details of your set up before we can properly recommend fish species for you.

What are the dimensions of the tank (that's more important than the volume) and exactly what fish do you have at the moment?

Can you also post the actual numbers from all your tests, please; including pH and hardness; if you don't know those, you should be able to find them on your supplier's website.

Finding out the pH and hardness of your water is vital, as hard water fish, like guppies, won't do well in the soft acidic water that the dwarf gourami needs.

Hi, I’d need to check the water again which I can’t do right at this moment. I live in Scotland so have soft water but I had guppies a few years ago and the my all seemed happy enough?!?? I didn’t realise they didn’t like soft water. The tank is 60x31x38cm. I have the one female dwarf gourami and 9 neon tetras.
