I saw this in another person's sig but was wondering if this is ok? i have a big tank and I"m tired of scraping algae and a pleco would take care of that.

Of course, I had my eye on an albino oscar to throw in there too. Would the Oscar and JD get along... how bout the three of them? I have a 75 gal so it'll be plenty big. The JD looks pretty lonely in there now

A JD and oscar will be fine in a tank that big as long as they are still juvies and are given a chance to grow up together. Just make sure you have a few hiding places, just in case, and monitor their behavior for the first few days.

I disagree. that tank is just big enough for a full grown Oscar on it's own. Add a Jack Dempsey, and you'll have serious territory issues!! The plec will be fine in there with the JD, as will some other largeish fish, but I'd avoid any large agressive Cichlids!!

what would be some good 'larger' fish to put with the JD? Another cichlid or something like a Rainbow fish that gets approx 6 inches. The LFS who sold me the JD said that his typically get about 8 inches

The plec will be fine but you should be aware that they often will not eat algae past the juvinielle stage and actually tend to prefer more meaty foods as they get older.

Also, you'll want to buy a large plec unless your JD is small to avoid aggression problems againt the plec. Large plecs are easily picked up for free as most don't have the room for them.

Oscars Will Grow Quite Large. I Am Keeping one with my Pacu in a 125 Gallone (see profile) and The Oscar is growing.

Once in a while the Oscar will get terratorial and nip at the pacu, yet the Pacu is like a 'puppy dog' to the oscar, following him anywhere.

In The future a bigger tank might need to be considered, Good Luck!
