Common Plec In A Gold Fish Tank

I wouldn't advise it they tend to suck on the slime coat of the goldfish.

i wouldnt, althought at my old house we did have one in a goldfish tank and he seemed to be fine.

so is it a yes or a no

( coz if i can not put him in to the cold water tank i am going to have to sell them :-( which i do not want to do )

I wouldnt do it personally not only because a goldfish is coldwater, and a pleco is tropical but because of what wilder said and that is your pleco will suck on the slime coat of your goldfish

That and you would be torturing your fish. By bringing the pleco down to cold water temperatures you would be stressing it out. Imagine trying to live in Alaska, if you grew up there and were used to it you can survive and do well but if you are not adapted to it than it would be horrible. Its even worse with fish as they can not adapt to their environment as well as we can. Also, goldfish put off extremely high amounts of ammonia because they are basically the fish versions of cows. This higher level of pollution would hurt the pleco, they are adaptable but combining ammonia with stress is a recipe for disaster. Goldfish tanks are a lot more likely to be high in ammonia because a lot of people don't do water changes as often on them as they do with their tropical tanks. Goldfish are "easy" supposedly so they need less care. A lot of people will say that "it worked for them" but I haven't ever heard of these type of people having fish that live to their full lifespan.
