I have a 30gal tank which is currently SW. I am hoping to clean it out and put some FW tropicals in it.

I have kept tropicals before and am up to speed on cycling etc. I haven't decided what I'm putting in it yet. Will have a few runs to the LFS in the next month or so before I decide.

There is a fair bit of coralline algae and lots of spirobids on the glass. This is a relatively good thing in a SW tank but they are going to be a bugger to get off. I am planning on replacing my filter media and giving the whole tank a good scrub and lots of rinses to get the salt out.

Will there be a problem with using an ex SW tank?? Is there anything I should know??

Any help will be appreciated. I will be empying the tank this week :good:

what filtration have you been using? or do you use powerheads and LR?

I've been relying on LR and powerheads. There is a built in tricle filter on the tank which I was using as extra movement + it was almost acting as a mini fuge. I took the filter media out and put LR rubble in it along with a small bag of Rowaphos.

My main reason for closing it down as a SW tank is my powerhead had died. Rather than replace it I was planning on scrubbing it down, adding an airline which is sitting redundant in the shed and running it like that. Obviously I have a heater in there already and I have loads of decorations hanging around from our old 55gal tropical tank.

I still have the old filter media from the built in filter. Could I save a few £££ by boiling it?
