Hi,

I'm new to this forum and hope someone can help. I had 4 comets in an outdoor pond, 6 or 7 years old. I lost one today. There seemed to be a lot of bleeding under the scales as well as down the fins and tail. It also looks like the scales may be standing off the body a bit. This was a large, roundish fish anyway but my son-in-law thought it looked a bit bloated. The other 3 seem to be fine although, might be my imagination, there might be a bit of blood on the tail of one of them. They're active and eating. These fish were wintered outside, have always been, and the filter system has been running for the past couple of weeks. Anyone have any ideas as to what killed the one and should I be doing anything to protect the remaining ones?

Thanks,

Chris

It sounds like dropsy, which is not a disease in itself, but is often a symptom of poor water quality.

Some large scale water changes, using a dechlorinator, are your best bet, and getting your water tested would be a good idea.
