Just a ploy to get someone to answer my cycling question...
I have a puzzler here. I've been needing to add ammonia daily to twice daily to keep feeding the bacteria. The highest my nitrites ever got was 1.00 and it's been a week now and they are back down to 0.25. Total cycling so far has been 3 weeks. 10 gallon tank.
If my nitrites go down to 0 today, does that mean I'm cycled?? My nitrAtes are only 10, up from 0 since starting, and they have only increased since I started observing nitrite.
Thing is, my nitrites never got above 1ppm. Shouldn't I have experienced a higher spike than that?? The only thing I can think is that I already had fish in this tank before and then I took them out to re-cycle the tank because I thought the medications I added killed off the bacteria.... maybe there was some residual nitrite eating bacteria in there from the start and that's the reason I never had a high nitrIte spike.
??
Any advice would be appreciated.
