my friend had a pair of clowns and one died. the other one is ok and in a 30 gallon tank. Would it be ok to put in my pair of clown of the same species (false) in there with that one single clown? Ive seen a trio of clowns before.....what do you think?

If the clown has been single for a month or longer, bad idea. It will have developed a territory and will kill newcomers.

Trio = bad idea.
Pair/group = good idea.

In a trio, the smallest, weakest clownfish will be singled out as the larger two pair up. He could very possibly be attacked in this state.

ok so new idea. would i be able to add my pair of false clown into a 55 gallon tank with another pair of true clowns?

Well, thats kind of like asking, "Can I drive my sedan at 100mph weaving in and out of traffic down the highway?"

Sure you can...

hmm ok?

got it

Lol, sorry bout the sarcasm :). I've read success stories of people keeping two pairs of clowns in the same 55g tank, and I've also read of bloodbaths that have ensued when this was tried. With a tank as small as a 55 you're really playing with fire trying to stick two pairs of clowns in it. I personlly wouldn't try it in anything less than a 6' tank (125g) to give the fish their territorial space that they want as they grow older. Just my oppinion, but I'd rather play it safe
