A few months ago, I had read nothing about columnaris, but after my time away, I keep reading abotu columnaris. I take it columnaris is bacterial, cotton mouth fungal. Other than that, is there a difference when diagnosing the fish?

columnaris looks exactly like it sounds - like colums of growth - or threads of cotton wool. another way to describe it is it starts out looking very staligmite/stalagmite looking growths, but thickens into it.

most cotton mouth treatments i have seen also treat flexibar columnaris (SP?) as they are so easy to get mixed up, i think?
