Ok, so im setting up my 20 gallon fish tank and want a schooling fish to put in it. The tank is overfiltered, I have an emporer 400 for tanks up to 80 gallons filtering the tank. The pH as of this morning is 7.2.

Right now i have 3 small swordtails (1m + 2f), a white molly, and 2 pygmy corries.
I was thinking like maybe like 5 neons or something, but the whole Neon Tetra Disease sort of scared me away....

Are there anyfish that school , stay relativly small, and are colorfull?

Thanks!

There are tons Pristella Tetra are the coolest and hardiest :D

How large could each individual fish be? I was thinking less then 2 inches because i thought swordtails and mollys get around 3 inches, so that would b 12 inches..

Does the fact that I am overfiltering the tank allow me to add more fish? Possibly even break the 1 inch per gallon rule?

As said before, and ill say it again that the 1 inch per gallon rule is a rough guide to help beginners start their tanks. It dosent work for fish over 6" really

Ok , thanks,
Does anyone know how many more fish i can add? Or how big they can be?

If you guys have any specific fish you think would be cool, I would love to hear it.

I was thinking the same, but both of the fish stores i went to said rummy-nose's are too active to a 20 gallon.I havnt read anything agreeing or disagreeing with this though.

They would be fine in a 20gal. I've got much more active fish then that in a 20gal. They are kinda robotic though. They swim from one end of the tank to the other end, then back to the other end, then back to the other end, and so on and so forth; day after day. They don't ever investigate anything unless its food, they just swim back and forth. :fish:

I've always been a fan of neons, cardinals, and black neon tetras.
Pretty much what he said. Don't worry about neon tetra disease, it's pretty over hyped. Just be sure the neons you get have been in the tank for a while, several days bare minimum, and make sure that all the fish in the tank look healthy, no sick or dead fish.
