I have a pair of veil tail angels in a 29g community. I notice they like to change the darkness of their stripes a lot. sometimes you can see them clearly, and sometimes not so clearly. Is there a reason that they changed their stripes? Is it because or stress? Somehow I dont think it is because of stress because the color changes seem pretty random to me.

I'm not so sure, maybe it's just something they do, or the way light is hitting them? I've never had angels so...I dont know.

I love your sig, but FYI, that bunny, CLEARLY has 2 pancakes on its head.

It maybe a form of stress...you say it is random but angels can go pale with anything that threatens them including getting in close to look at them...switching their lights on...doors closing! Angels are at their best when undisturbed.

I doubt if there is anything wrong with them!

also, when they dont have long thin plants, they don't feel the need for them as much.

Well,I don't have "regular" angels with stripes, but if they are stressed out, their stripes will virtually disappear.Let's say you enter a room where there is a tank with these fish, more often than not their color would fade,'cause they got scared.
The same way,if you have a darker setting, their stripes will go darker and the lighter coloration will tend to get a bit darker as well.

well when some fish get mad they get very dark stripes on them. prehaps that is what is happening, and the stripes usually arent there?

Hmm, I dont know either. I have another pair of long tail angels that are predominately black, but there color stays strong. But the pair i was talking about are short tails. When they swim they dont look stressed because they are always searching for food on the tall plants and gravel. The temprature is at a constant 75 F. and Ph stays the same.

It could also just be a form of communication between the angels - a sign of dominanace or something along those lines.
