color changing angelfish?!

Hello, I recently purchased a angelfish from the LFS store, it was white with black stripes that resemble a tiger barb. But when I got home, i realised that the angelfish had changed colors to completely white with orange around the face! Just wondered if this was normal and what type of angelfish did I buy?? and does it's color change mean anything overall for the fish's health? cause he hasnt turned back to its striped color all that much, its been kinda half and half...

It could be the light or a difference in surroundings. Often times fish colors will differ somewhat based on things like amount of light and substrate color. If the fish is healthy and behaving normally I wouldn't worry too much. I'd just keep an eye on it for a few days, see how it does.

i have a white angel with stripes as well, only sometimes u can see the stripes and sometimes the stripe is barely there but none of my other angels have anything like that i think it's nothing so i leave him a lone

Ha Ha When i first saw mine do that i was a little worried about the quality of my beer!! know exactly what you are talking about. i have a common silver with black stripes angel. she color changes all the time the black stripes fade to transparrent and back again. normally seen when feeding or fighting with fin nippers..

if yours follows the above trend you have nothing to worry about.

Hi there,

I have an Angel exactly the same description as yourself and Jimbooo. The angels stripes come and go, they normally come when she and my other angel have little fights, also when its feeding time, when she is excited. Nothing to worry about as jimbooo said just very cool.

ive got to totally agree with the majority, i bought a lush black and silver stripped baby angel along with a few other baby angels in different colours. By the time i got home the 1 black and silver baby angel fish turned completely silver. The fishes colours seem to change according with their surroundings and their moods.

Yep. My striped angel does exactly the same thing. I can't figure out which colouring goes with which mood though- it seems completely random.

With my silvers the stripes seem to fade when they are unhappy about something. They don't like the gravel vac, or water changes, but they sure do like brine shrimp & fresh water. I sold some fry to a lfs a while back & went in a week later just to see how they were doing/selling. I could tell that their water is nowhere near as good as mine. Barely any stripe at all, but they still come to the top of the tank when you put your hand there. If their hungry they are o.k.

i have a silver with black stripe as well. seems to lose his stripes whenever he is stressed.
