the motor thingy is clogged
it dosent turn
how do i fix this
???
yes there is sand in the fish tank

Twist the motor assembly off the bottom, the motor & impeller will be seperate from the plastic case. Remove the impeller, Rinse it and the inside of the motor assembly where the impeller sits.

Make sure the filter is removed from the tank, unless you want a sudden, messy water change.

tried iut still dosent work???

First, make sure it has cooled down real good, ac's have some sort of heat overload switch in them. Try plugging it in breifly with the motor assembly disconnected from the filter case. Give the impeller a spin with your finger if it doesn't start right away.

If none of these work, the impeller is shot, or the motor is fried.

i dont think its the motor

i usually take the motor/impellor apart and rinse both of them. never had a problem with them

Twist the black plastic motor assembly and you should be able to remove it from the clear plastic casing. You should then be able to grasp the impeller and pull it out. Clean the impeller if required and then give a good blast of water from the tap (on full) into where the impeller came out. Replace the impeller and plug it in to try it. If it will not start, rotate the impeller a bit and plug it in again. Sometimes takes a few tries to get it to run. I've had this happen with a lot of my Aquaclears over the years but they nearly always work just fine after they get running again. Good luck.

I just had a Whisper filter stop spinning on me and as usual I took it apart and cleaned everything but realized the impeller was stuck to the shaft. The impeller should spin freely on the little steel shaft. Mine wasn't so I took it out to the garage and tapped on the shaft with a small hammer to break it free from the impeller. Then I took some ScotchBrite pad and polished the shaft and then ran water through the inside of the impeller. Then reassembled and it works fine now.

One thing that will tell you if the coil (motor winding that is in the black outer part) is good is when you turn it on and you hear a humming noise and you can feel the magnetic pull as you try to remove the impeller. If the coil is trying to turn the impeller it is ok and you probably have a bad impeller. I have personally never seen one that couldn't be fixed by just cleaning and freeing things up.

I also try to get a bottle brush down into the motor housing to get any crud out that has accumulated there.
