I realize that's a small amount of space, but are there any coldwater fish that would work well in a tank that small? I may end up putting in an african dwarf frog, but I'd like to explore cold water options first.

Once the tank is cycled a Borneo sucker would be great. It cleans the tank and looks good too. It stays small at 2 inches. It could go along with the frog or a small fish.

If a Borneo Sucker is actually a Hillstream Loach (which I seem to remember it is), it actually grows to 11" long.

The only fish I'd really keep in a tank that small would be a betta. You can buy heaters for tanks that small.

11 inches!? Some scam fish manager then. I saw what the Hillstream loaches look like, and yes thats it. Well, thanks for the info.

Edit: The maximum for the Hillstream loach is 3 inches. I'm sure of it because I have been looking on several sites and all the same answer. I was wondering why 11 inches was a little extreme and the manager knowing so little.

No, there are several species of Hillstream Loach, including dwarf species. Thanks for the heads up - I never would have checked otherwise!

I was going by Baesch which has the 11" species listed.

Well, now that thats out of the way, wouldn't a hillstream loach (Borneo Sucker), the 3 inch one be good now? Or someone correct me if its not a good chioce for the specified tank.

A tank that size hasn't really got the oxygen carrying capacity for any fish except those that can breathe air directly, but it hasn't got the swimming/territory space for a gourami. A betta can breathe air and it doesn't require a lot of territory.

Even a dwarf Hillstream loach/Borneo sucker would require more oxygen and more swimming space than a 2-2.5 gal tank can offer, and also they need a good supply of very clean, highly oxygenated, cool water. There is also the risk that the species you were sold was an 11" specimen, and not the dwarf you hoped for.
