I'd get yourself a 5 or 10G set up for the betta and then add maybe a few shrimp or dwarf frogs or ottos
then you could add more tropicals to your current setup

Bettas aren't suitable for community tanks due to the reasons that you are finding.

migh be a silly idea but you dont get anywear with out asking would i be able to put the betta in with the goldfish would that work

if u was 2 keep him in the tank u have then otto's or cory's are probably ur best bet with a betta other than that u will constantly have the problems ur having :( whats the tank size m8?

TBH, I'd drop the goldfish plans if you can't have three tanks and want to keep the betta and tropical community. Bettas should have a tank and tankmates tailored to their needs to avoid the nipping you've seen (Many fish, including just about all tetras, have the tendency to nip. Keeping tetras in groups can help prevent problems, but betta fins are often irresistible), and goldfish need different conditions and diet, and are a good bit bigger than most community fish. A 20 gallon tank is the smallest recommended for a single fancy goldfish (common goldies, comets, and shubunkins can far outgrow even that, and even fancy goldfish might not fit forever), and bigger is better as they're social and enjoy the company of other goldfish. They live a very long time, so IMO they should never be bought lightly and never just fitted into a setup, but have the setup built with goldfish in mind. Sounds like you've already got the betta and tetras, so there's your two tanks.
