A friend of mine is thinking about getting tropical fish for his cold water (50g), he has no heater and the temp is 20-21C. I tried to tell him but it didnt help.

What will this do to the tropical fish?

Put simply it will kill them. The stress of changing rapidly will do the first bit of harm, then the lack of heat will slow their metabolisms until their organs cease functioning and they'll die.

imagine going to live in the alps, naked

Thanks for the fast reply, if they die ill be sure to say i told you so to him.

Wont be "if", it'll be "when".

Is there no chance you can steer him onto coldwater fish? Or maybe get him to get a heater.

You can get sub tropical fish. What kind is he going to get?

He was going for a bronze cory (just one, arnt they supposed to be in groups?). He currently has a couple of goldfish, blackmoors, hillstream loach, wcmms.

Corydoras aeneus need a temp of 22-26 degrees.. should be in a group of 6 as they are quite sociable.
