im setting up my 90 gallon. and i just bought the heater last night. i set it up and turned it up to 78 and went to bed, then when i woke up i looked and the heater was off but on the opposite side of the tank where the temp gauge is it said 73. so i put my hand in there and it was really warm along the sides of the tank but in the middle it was freezing. but i dont hvae the filter on and hooked up yet. is the filter and a bubble wall enough to circulate the water to make sure there wont be any cold spots?

yah the filters and powerheads will oxygenate ur water and evanout the temperature but have the heater hear the inlet of ur filter as the water flowing past it would be heated and then moved thou the filter and around the tank.

Vip the wattage of the heater is not importaint unless gmen5681 has oversized the heater where he/she runs the risk of boiling his fish. The heater will heat the water evan if it takes it's time.

its a 300 watt heater, its rated for a 75 gallon. but the room temp is never below 68 anyways. so i figured i would be fine.

not in my experience

I accidentally bought an undersized heater for a tank, when set at 26 it never reacehs more than 20.

yes but sometimes there are exeptions ur heater should be rated for at least halr the volume of the tank.

gmen5681 a 300watt heater is enough but u could get one that is rated for the last 15Gl of ur tank and put it at the opposite end of the tank. it will help to evan out the heating. even if u don't it should be fine.
