I was wondering if there would be any point in adding
white cold cathodes as an additional light source for tanks,
particulaly ones that can't have additional tubes added.

Do you think there would be any benifit
or is it a waste of moola?

Some people do use them, especially for small tanks like betta tanks. Not sure what sort of WPG they provide though :dunno:

More important than watts per gallon is lumens per gallon, I don't know what the colour temperature is.

If you can find one with a colour temp of between 5,000K and 7,500K then it should be good for growing plants. If not, it should still light up the tank fairly well. After all, blue ones are used somewhat extensively as night lights.
