Hi there

I have 2 guppies, and one of them keeps bullying the other one, I was thinking that he doesn't have enough places to hide, and he is getting harassed 24/7. I really don't want him to get nipped badly.

Could I put a coffee mug in there as a temporary hiding place, until I buy some more fish to 'spread the agression'?

How would I wash it properly?

Thanks
C

I say go for it, just wash it off with water( no soap!!!!!!!!!). You might need several. Are they 2 males or 2 females or 1 male, 1 female.

there are 2 males, all my mugs are glazed!

Is there an alternative you can think of.

Also, I'm worried that this same bully might have ich, but am not certain.

He does have whitish spots on his upper body, but they also look silver; is there a way that I can be sure? I have only had him 2 days and can't remember if thats what he looked like, as he is very colourful, it could just be me being paranoid.

I would just put a male into a breeder and get 4 females, then let him loose. Also, could you post a pic?

you can get a few terra cotta pots from your local garden center and a hole on the side of each pot. place the pots upside down and you have some caves.

i don't know if your fish will use them though, but my krib uses one as his home.

I was going to, but the quality is so poor that the fish just look like a blur.

It was just something that I was going to do overnight, hopefully tomorrow I will buy a tunnel tomorrow from my LPS.

Also I did originally have three guppies, but one died this morning.

On the day I bought them I looked in the tank and I noticed a slit in one of the tails all the way to the body which I don't think was like that in the shop. In the morning this developed into more of a hole, then by this morning he had died.

Is there a possibility taht this stemmed from a bad nip, or is it more likely to be fin rot?

i would say to just wash it off with hot water. the hotter it sis the more bcateria will get destroyed and obstructed. Dont use soap since it will poisen the fish. :music:
