Hi,
I've received my new betta today and I had bought him a half coconut cave. How long should it soak before I put it in his tank? It arrived dry and had never been in a tank. Anything else I need to do to prepare it?

Thanks.

Pop it in a tub of kettle boiled water for an hour, give it a good scrub and then place it in the tank.

hi wilchil64'
just give it a good wash and put it in no need to soak it :good:

yes because there labyrinth fish
to fully get all the tanins out of the shell
and take the bacteria out put the coconut
in a pan of water and put it on a cooker
and boil the water for 5mins

Thanks, I've done this and put the coconut cave in, he's been in twice already, so must like it!

Sure, but your reasoning was that because they are labyrinth fish, they will go in the cave. A labyrinth fish is one that has a labyrinth organ, which allows it to breath air.

Ah ok, I see where your going with this

Two different meanings, in this case a betta has a labyrinth organ, which enables it to breathe air. Not meaning that it likes to live in caves (labyrinths).
