I have just discovered the coconut cave! I really like the look of them, and truthfully would be better than my current decor for the Betta, but are they safe for Bettas? I have already read all about how to make them, looks fairly straight forward, I know that they might lower the pH (currently my pH generally hangs around 7.4 ... a little low right now in 1 of my tanks due to cycling - fish less). Just wasn't sure about the safety with Bettas. I am thinking if I sand the edges down really well that should prevent any sharpness that might occur. Would it be better to clean off as much of the "hair" as possible for the Betta, or is the coconut "hair" OK?

Thanks

yeah i think its good for a betta and what kind is he

Thanks for the quick response, I guess cocnut shopping tomorrow. Don't actually have him yet, just finishing up a fishless cycle, but will probably be a crown tail, or half moon ... well I don't know I love the look of all of them, I guess which ever one I fall for at the store

lol yeah be carful shoping for betta some may have some disseses

Yeah I know what you mean, everytime I go into the shop I look at the bettas. I have already eliminated 3 of the 5 shops near me simply because the Bettas look unhealthy. I would love to rescue them and nurse them back to health, but as I am new to fish in general, I don't want to set my self up for a fall. I know selfish of me, but as I get the hang of it I am sure I will be littered with betta tanks filled with rescues. :good:
