hello,
I've asked this question or a variation of it before but thought i'd ask again.
My 40 us gal tank has a trio of cockatoos a male and 2 females. Plus some dithers.
I wanted to add a pair of blue or gold rams. Has any one kept apistos and rams together? Did it work.
Cheers

I did for a bit, but the male cockatoo got too big and territorial. I guess the tank size is good, but all those female cockatoos might make him a bit bulshy

A VERY heavily planted tank with LOTS of structure *might* work but I wouldn't recommend it. I have a 33 gal long with a trio of Cockatoos and I doubt that they would tolerate a pair of rams in their territory. A 40 gal is certainly big enough to handle the bio load but I just don't think there is enough space. Cockatoos are very territorial especially when in breeding mode which, in my experience, is almost always.

I would love to have a pair of rams myself but I have decided to wait. Cockatoos generally live about 3 years so when nature takes it's course I plan to get another species of dwarf cichlids then. Maybe rams.
