Also reading the fish index on the forum it says its best to get one male and 2 females? is that true, coz i heard its hard to find females so would 2 males not get along?
M/F pairs are better, less agression, I'd also like to know about cockatoos and ram's (both bolivian and blue). I'd Guess though that alot would actually depend on the hardiness of the stock, both blue rams and cockatoo (so I've heard) ar'nt the hardiest species, I'd guess that a pair of bolivians (or blues if you wanted the risk) should be fine with a pair or trio of cockatoos (harem brooders) though
I would imagine so given enough LOTS of caves the whole object would be to create as much territory for each of the males as possible. Males ( espically New Worlds) are very territorial and will defend their little peice of the tank from other males. it will be an experiment but if you are going to go with 2 males I suggest that you at least have another temp tank ready just in case things don't go well. so that way if things do go wrong you can snatch one of them out and put him in there until you can decide what to do with it be it take it back to the LFS or get him another tank and a copule females.
in your first post you asked about apistos doing better in trios of 1 male/2 females, this is the prefered grouping for breeding it spreads the males intentions out between the two females so he isn't constantly chasing after one female while she is trying to keep the fry alive.
Agreed. Only two males if there is PLENTY of room, and 2 females per male is, IMO, minimum. Yes, they will "get along" with the rams, but once again, you will need a lot of room to accomodate territories.
