Pls help, my Male Cocaktoo dwarf is looking very very unwell,
:-( :-(
He was bought 3 weeks ago to accompany my female that I'd gotten on a previous occasion. He was much smaller than the female on purchase and on introduction to the tank, was shunned by her. He has been eating on and off but more often than not is barged out the way by the other tank mates and lately seems to have grown weak.

Now he's lying on his side in a corner of the tank, breathing slowly and is arched sideways. He is clearly stressed as he has all his finnage erect. When he swims he struggles to swim straight as his body is arched so badly.

Water stats are fine, although, I know I live in a hard water area and even with buffering my water pH is roughly 7-7.5. COuld this be the problem as I know Apistogramma are more accustomed to softer conditions and lower pH. The weird thing is my female who's been in the tank for around 5 months now is absolutely thriving (ie always first to food, brilliant colours, very active etc) are males more sensitive? or is he just so heart broken that he's given up the will to live?

Thanks for the help

Hank

When you say he's arched do you mean a bent spine.
Is he going thin?

Is it possible to put a pic on the board to take a look at.

Can you issolate the sick fish as he dosn't sound good.

Yes he is going thin and the spine does look bent, he wasn't like this when I got him, any suggestions? I'm thinking of getting him a small tank to isolate him in tomorrow.... if it's not too late

Everything else in the tank looks absolutely fine though

Sorry R.I.P.
Do a water change and just keep a close eye on the fish, good luck.
