I recently got a pair of these, and almost straight away there was a collection of eggs on the underside of a rock, eventually there was loads of fry, but they were not free-swimming, a day or so later there was just 3 free-swimming fry with the mother, and then, none. the day before yesterday there was another batch of eggs, and today, none.

What is happening?

The pair are in a 15gal tank on there own.

Most cichlids take a few attempts to get it right. So if you find that they eat the fry or eggs right away, after another batch or two; you can take out the eggs and hatch them in another tank.

its like how Ripley said. this eating of fry and eggs thing will end after a few spawns

Some times you will find females that eat the eggs or fry time after time and in such cases you'll have to take the eggs and hatch them by themselves. (For some reason females are prone to do this more than males specially with discus and angels) but it could apply to dwarf cichlids as well.

that's right! some times the parents will breed numerous times before it's right. They might be eaten by the parents a few times too.

buy some dither fish, it'll distract the parents from eating the eggs?

The problem is that then you could have the dither fish preying on the eggs or fry and then you would not know who eate them, the dither fish or the parents??? Its best to leave the parents alone and if after several times it does not work maybe separate the pair and find other mates for them. This has worked for some folks I know.
