Cockatoo cichlid is not well as can be seen from pic. started off by hideing in cave all time then noticed he was afraid of other fish and noticed a white spot on him. he is now isolated and been treated with interpet no 6. he is now much worse and hardly moves and as you can see has several white patches.

water stats

ph 8
amonia 0
nitrite 0
nitrate 15

we added some very small neons to the tank at same time and shortly after started loosing them. lost 6 neons seemed to loose about 1 a night, not sure what caused it. nothing else in the tank is afffected.

any ideas?

it looks like he has been attacked by something. What else is in the tank with him?

dont think there is anything else in the tank that would bully him

1*Siamese Algae Eater
1*Guppy(male)
2*Bristlenose Plecs(1male 1female)
2*Peppered Cory
2*Cockatoo cichlid(2female)
6*Bronze Cory
10*Neon Tetra

and recently added 2*Pearl Gourami but he had started to hide before these were added

He's in a bad way and to be honest he's not going to make it.
It looks bacterial to me.

you know your stuff Wilder, so should i euthanize.
also treating community tank, not used these meds (the one for white spot that is) before so should i carry out water changes as usual or wait till end of treatment. is it safe to flush water from hospital tank now with med in it.

also didnt see part about stirring in 1/2 litre of warm water till fully disolved. we just poured it into a small glass of tank water then into tank. went a bit blue for a bit. will that have done any harm.

thanks for help

Seen to many fish in my time the way he looks, once the lay on the bottom of the tank like that never seem to recover.
His body landuage and eyes says it all.
When you say flush do you mean fluss the water down the sink.
Is interpet no6 med whitespot, if so you need anti internal bacteria med by interpet.

Wounds that are white on the edges and red in the center are most typically Aeromonas. Those that are red on the edges and white in the center are generally Columnaris. Both are gram negative bacteria. The best treatment for this is any sulfa antibiotic with trimetheprim. This can be put in the water and mixed with food -- if you can find Romet B use it.

Read the whole thread now.
White patches can be columnaris to parasites.
Any signs of flicking and rubbing against objects in the tank.

Ntd signs are, just want to make sure you never lost the neons to ntd.
Red stripe looks bleached out or a milky substance on the red stripe.
The blue area can go a yellow colour like velvet.
Leaving the shoal, and being restless.
They will swim oddly.
Black linning around the red stripe area.
Lumps on the belly that go to a point.
Weightloss to bent spines.
Sometimes popeye and dropsy in later stage of ntd.

Whitespot will look like the fish has been sprinkled in salt.
The spots will be the size of a grain of salt.
If whitespot is left untreated it can start to join up and look like a patch.

How is the fish now.
I would give the fish a chance with the bacterial med, but to be honest he looks bad, but I would rather give the fish a chance first, then put him down straight away.

thanks wilder. im just back from work

fish still much the same. ill try and find some bacterial med when shop opens in the morning. will keep you posted.

just been looking at the instructions. dont think i can use white spot and anti bacterial meds at the same time and have allready added whitespot meds ?

To be honest I don't know why you are using the whitespot med.
Do a water change and run some black carbon.

i know it was the wrong med. unfortunitly the fish was dead when girlfriend got up this morning.

When you say flush do you mean fluss the water down the sink.
usually flush the water down the toilet after water changes. jut wondering if its ok now to flush water from hospital tank after adding med as the fish has passed away.

do you think that is ok as we treated community tank aswell

thanks again for your help

Bless him R.I.P. He looked bad in the pic showed all the signs of a dying fish.

If your fish don't have whitespot I would preform a water change and run some black carbon.
Tipping water down the sink with meds in is ok.
Never treat a tank till you know what your fish have, as it can cause more harm then good.

the med was added on advice from someone else.

thanks again for taking the time to help.
