Here's a question I doubt has been asked often.
I have some small pieces of coal from a shipwreck from 1886. So they were under the water for 115 years before I brought them up. They were soaked in fresh water for 3 months and have been dried and inside for the last few years.
I was wondering if it would be safe to put in my tank. The coal is hard.Any thoughts?

umm i wouldn't think it would be a good idea as it could send ammonia nitite etc etc off the scale

I would rather have the ship wreck in my tank.

I'm not going to do it. It's not worth the risk. I wasn't thinking of increased ammonia levels but that makes sense. Thanks for the input.

Wish I could have a tank that big. Wreck is over 500 ft long

Did the ship wreck look cool?
Yes, It is a very cool wreck . SS Oregon, Launched at Glasgow, Scotland June 1883 Sunk March 14, 1886 Long Island NY after being struck by an unknown schooner.

To be honest think you made the right choice not adding the coal.
