i was just looking through the planted tanks forum on here and i was reading all the members posts about all there details of planted tanks etc ...just wondering what does co2 system mean ??

thanks

CO2 is carbon and oxygen chemically bonded together.

plants need CO2 for photo synthesis. this is the equation

CO2+H20---light/chlorophyll---=water and glucose.

and plants need CO2 and light in order to grow and live.

can i buy something that does that from my lfs ?

CO2 system means they have a system that injects CO2 into the tank to make Carbon © available to plants for use in photosynthesis. there are 2 types that are mainly used:

fermentation - the mixture of yeast, water, and sugar to produce CO2 (and alcohol as a by product), usually made as a DIY kit

pressurized - this is a 'proper' system where you can regulate how much CO2 is injected, when to turn it off etc. You can uy kits that have all the parts available or you can put together a kit using a fire extinghuisher (see 2 guides in my sig)

just read your article very good i shall be making one of them .. where can you buy the tube from ?? how many cups of suger do you need in your mix did you say 2 ?

lol I use 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon yeast and 6-8 cups lukewarm water. Will different mixtures yield different bubble rates? I'm only getting a bubble every 2 secs. I have the tube running down from above the tank, with a right angle bend as well, probably makes a difference?
