I am about to go out and get a 25 gal (US) tank off my friend in a few days and was wondering is CO2 really needed for a well planted tank and what difference does it make?
Also is it a bad idea to use a airstone and CO2 in the same tank?

Co2 is a "wonder drug" ! I never seen plants grow so fast ! I am throwing away cabomba most weeks, before Co2 I could hardly keep it alive.

As for airstone, NO you will be driving off the co2 you are adding !

isn't co2 only required if you have suitable lighting over 2wpg? or does it also have a significant impact on lower wpg lighting too?
