i am starting up a new tank and have decided to use real plants bought them the other day and have read a lot about how beneficial the co2 is

i didnt really want to get into that side of it but was thinking maybe i should but dont have a great deal of money to spend have looked at the diy one but not sure i fully understand it so i was having a look around and seen this hagens co2 system

it is quite cheap i thought does anyone know anything about it if its any good or not cheers

i use on it works well but the yeast you get with the kit i a bit rubbish. look in the pinned co2 topic for jimbos recipe. how bigs your tank by the way!?

you'll need more than one really for a tank that size. a diy system might be a better option if money's a bit tight (i know it is with me!!) what is it that you don't understand about the diy system? what sort of plants are you planning on using and how much light do you have because co2 may not even be nesicary(sp)

sorry about the triple post don't know what happend there!

would a ten gall with 6 plants need co2 injections

sorry im asking a question in your post... lol

jw a quick answer

no probs about that at the moment i have no light just looking to a 40w light unit would like to run blue light

the plants i bought are amazon swordsx2 twisted vallisx2 cabombax1 and i think red myrophyllumx1

would that lighting be ok or do you recomend something better?

this diy option as i see it 2 bottles yeast and sugar (is it just normal stuff you pick up from a supermarket?) run some airline into the tank but with what on the end and how do you regulate the flow?

thanks for any feed back

right, for lighting and co2 read the pinned topics as they are very good, hold more info than i can remember and save my wrists with all the typing!! :D with a diy setup yes it is just regular yeast from the supermarket. you use two bottles one to contain the mix then it is piped into the second bottle and then into the tank. this is for safety coz if it over flows you don't want it in the tank! as for what you have at the end of the airline its up to you, you could use an air stone but if you don't obstruct the bubbles path to surface the won't disolve much. i think it would be best for you to by the hagen unit because you then have a bubble ladder and co2 prof hosing then you can just diy the bottle so you have a bigger output.
