Hello,

I really want a planted tank but my plants just keep dieing or getting eaten by the fish - wasted so much money on new plants it's stupid  i think the plants simply do not grow fast enough. Lighting is standard Juwel T5's (1WPG).

Really irritates me when i see people moaning they thave TOO much growth!!!

I'm considering either the JBL or D-D set - what do people recommend?

Thanks,

Jonathan.

ps: forgot to mention - i have been using seachem flourish excel - 5ml a day.

Co2 will be pretty useless because of your light, if you want a pressurized then you might aswell upgrade your lighting to at least 2WPG otherwise, get a fermentation kit, If you don't have light then your stuck, it is the most important aspect.

You could always go for low light plants.

Co2 will always be helpful in stimulating plant growth regardless of lighting levels (provided your above the minimum light threshold).
I agree that higher light would be better, but only if your goal is to have a large amount of growth every week. Lower light levels tends to mean lower maintenance. But it can limit plant choice.

For good co2 kits cheaply, get a kit from aquiversand (sp?) on ebay and buy a fire extinguisher from ebay too.
Sam can give more details as her bought his FE and I borrowed mine.

Thanks for the replies.

How can i upgrade the standard juwel lighting?

All i want to do is grow Anubias, Vallis, Java Fern, Amazon sword without them weaping and dieing off in a month or so! Would these grow well under 1WPG with CO2?

Oh yes!
George farmer did it recently and very nice it was too!

right i'm sold :hyper:

what do people recommend the D-D system or the JBL one? Do they both come with night time shut off?

The aquaversand one of ebay save yourself some pennies ;)

Definatley

If you ever upgrade you need to buy a starter unit and the tubes. then the fixings/ clips come with that, you then have to screw them in/ on to your hood, add reflectors to get more light. Arcadia are excellent choice for lighting. If you don't want to add tubes into your hood then you could get an overhead luminaire but they are costly depending on the size of your tank. Have a look at jimboos journal, it shows you his upgrade in lights and he has a juwel.

I'm not sure if he tells you how to do it but you could pm him.
