I just added a Nutrafin co2 fermentation kit, added to my Turbo co2 fermentation unit (has a pump, whereas the Nutrafin doesn't). The nutrafin system has a stabilizer, in addition to the activator, which you mix with sugar. I had stopped using the refillable cartridge for the Turbo system, saving money by simply using the mixture of sugar and activated yeast. The Nutrafin system's stabilizer...how important is that, and how do I duplicate it with my own mixture? Should I be using it in both systems??? In other words, what, if anything, should I be adding to the combination of warm water, activated yeast, and granualted sugar? I have 130 watts of compact flourescent lighting for a 55 gallon tank, I use ferts regularly, and I am attempting to grow a glosso carpet. My ph is 6.2 to 6.8, but it seems relatively stable at about 6.5. I have recently rehabbed a discus that was kept in poor water parameters by the LFS, so I now have to do 2-3 water changes per week. I have very little algae in the tank, and I don't want uneven co2 if it can be helped. I will alternate changing the two systems (co2) every other week. Any other advice?
